1950's Mullard BVA Made in England ECC82 long-plates ..." Its performance was off-the-charts in two separate listenings for this report. The bass is deep, sumptuously textured, and full-bodied, and powerful. The midrange displays prominent secondary and third octave nuances, the tube has enormous layers of harmonic depth as well as a liquid sonic midrange texture. The highs are sweet and pure and true to life. Very compelling tube providing no ear fatigue.”...

OLD WORLD MULLARD ECC82 12AU7 low-noise perfect pair NOS from 1956-57' tubes - LONG PLATE DESIGN for that smooth quiet musical sound reproduction with true to life bass and midrange boost.

These tubes actually sound better than the Telefunken Ulm W.Germany ECC802S which in my opinion exhibits a "compressed" sound-stage and THE ECC802S do sound more sterile, and not as musical as the 1950's Mullard 12AU7/ECC82 long-plates. That's because the ECC802S was developed for Broadcast stations that require a "compressed" signal for radio in cars and homes that sometimes only had a single speaker!

..." The 1956-57 Mullards are what most audiophile claim are the "gold standard" of tubes - providing they test like these do!"...

- In our Tube Museum New York lab we use a much lower cost but very nice sounding Conrad-Johnson PV10A preamp which has the 2 sockets for a pair of 12AU7. All I can say is when I swap between Telefunken ECC802S and these Mullards the Mullard the difference is drastic. The Telefunken tube line of ECC802S, 802S, and 803S tubes were launched in Germany to upgrade broadcast stations which sent radio signals to, for instance, car radios, and 1 speaker home radios in the early 1960's. The Telefunken ECC802S was promoted as the upgrade to the regular ECC82 they made, but "compresses" the signal so that car radios and one speaker home radios would hear both stereo- multiplex signals evenly. The tube really was never designed for true audiophile stereo systems.

- These 1950's goal-post long plates have a VERY liquid midrange and you hear nuances that you didn't notice before. The tubes has absolutely ZERO ear-fatigue, you wake up and can't wait to listen to them for hours on end. They really are magical tubes - I never thought a tube could change for the better our CJ PV10A when we auditioned them.

Amplitrex AT-1000 test results: zero (0) heater-to-cathode leaks & zero (0) microphonics.

These are RARE and never to be seen again with these stellar test measurements which are tight and quiet.
